HAL to Launch Fourth Assembly Line for Tejas Jets
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has announced plans to establish a fourth assembly line for its indigenously developed Tejas fighter jets. The move aims to address delivery delays and ramp up production to meet the increasing demand for these advanced combat aircraft.
Addressing Delivery Challenges
HAL’s decision to set up an additional assembly line comes as part of its efforts to speed up deliveries of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas. The delays have been attributed to supply chain challenges and the complexities of scaling up production for an advanced fighter jet.
A senior HAL official stated, “The fourth assembly line is critical to ensuring that we meet our commitments to the Indian Air Force (IAF) and deliver the aircraft on schedule.”
The IAF has placed an order for 83 Tejas Mk-1A jets, with deliveries expected to be completed by 2029. The new assembly line will play a vital role in meeting this timeline while addressing future orders.
Enhancing Production Capacity
With three existing assembly lines already operational, HAL’s fourth line is expected to significantly boost production capacity. The expansion will enable the company to manufacture more units annually, ensuring timely deliveries for both domestic and export markets.
