GST Collections Hit 10-Month High In March

GST Collections Hit 10-Month High In March

India’s gross GST collections rose to Rs 2 lakh crore in March, marking a 10-month high and showing continued strength in tax revenues at the close of FY26. The latest figures reflect an 8.8% increase from the year-ago period and a clear rebound from February, when collections had slipped to Rs 1.84 lakh crore.

March GST Collections Rise To Rs 2 Lakh Crore

The March increase points to a stronger finish for the fiscal year after several months of collections moving within a narrower range. Monthly GST revenue had mostly stayed between Rs 1.70 lakh crore and Rs 1.96 lakh crore from mid-2025 to early 2026, making the March number a notable jump. It is still below the all-time peak of Rs 2.37 lakh crore recorded in April 2025, but it marks the strongest monthly reading in 10 months.

Import GST Growth Supports Revenue

A closer look at the data shows import-linked collections grew faster than domestic revenue. Gross domestic revenue in March stood at Rs 1.46 lakh crore, up 5.9% from a year earlier, while revenue from imports rose 17.8% to Rs 53,861 crore. That suggests stronger import-related tax inflows played an important role in lifting the overall GST number for the month.

FY26 GST Revenue Shows Steady Growth

For the full financial year, gross GST revenue came in at Rs 22.27 lakh crore, up 8.3% from Rs 20.55 lakh crore in the previous year. Refunds in March rose 13.8% to Rs 22,074 crore, while net GST revenue increased 8.2% to Rs 1.78 lakh crore. The figures indicate that despite monthly fluctuations, GST collections remained on a stable growth path through the second half of FY26.
