Greenland Reaffirms Choice to Stay With Denmark

Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen has said the Arctic territory will remain aligned with Denmark, firmly rejecting any possibility of becoming part of the United States. Speaking during a joint appearance with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Nielsen said Greenland does not wish to change its sovereign arrangement.

PM Rules Out U.S. Option

Nielsen stated that while Greenland maintains cooperation with the United States on security and economic matters, its political future lies within the Kingdom of Denmark. He stressed that Greenland’s people have no desire to be absorbed by another country and that any external pressure would only reinforce this position.

Strategic Interest Draws Attention

Greenland has gained renewed international attention due to its strategic Arctic location, abundant natural resources, and growing geopolitical competition in the region. Recent statements by U.S. political figures have revived debate, but Greenland’s leadership has moved to clarify its stance.

Denmark Backs Greenland’s Decision

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reiterated that Greenland’s status is not open for negotiation and that Copenhagen fully respects the will of the Greenlandic people. She added that Denmark and Greenland will continue to coordinate closely on defense and foreign policy issues.
