Govt Clears 17 Projects To Boost Electronic Goods Production
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on 18 November 2025 approved 17 new projects under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). The investments total approximately ₹7,172 crore and will set up manufacturing units for electronic components across nine states and union territories: Karnataka (5), Tamil Nadu (3), Maharashtra (3), Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Goa.
Aims And Impact
The projects focus on producing key components such as multilayer printed-circuit boards, camera modules and optical transceivers, strengthening India’s goal to reduce import dependence and build a domestic electronics component ecosystem. The government expects these projects to generate employment opportunities, enhance manufacturing capacity and support export ambitions of the electronics goods sector.
Strategic Significance
By approving this second tranche of ECMS projects, the government signals confidence in India’s capability to become a major electronics manufacturing hub. Officials note that early scepticism about India’s electronics ambitions is being dispelled. Investors and industry players say the approvals could boost India’s position in global supply chains and aid in achieving the target of a strong electronics exports growth.
