Government Warns IndiGo CEO Could Be Removed

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has said he would not hesitate to remove IndiGo’s CEO if the airline fails to correct its operational problems. The statement came after a major disruption that grounded flights and caused widespread inconvenience for passengers across the country.

Cancellations triggered nationwide crisis

IndiGo cancelled more than 2,000 flights within a few days after new pilot duty and rest rules were enforced. The sudden changes left the airline struggling to manage crew schedules and handle passengers at airports. Queues, delays and baggage issues were reported at several major airports.

Inquiry and corrective action

The government and the DGCA have begun an inquiry into the disruption. IndiGo has been ordered to cut part of its winter schedule and improve planning to avoid further problems. The airline has also been directed to submit a revised timetable and ensure better rostering of pilots and staff.

Accountability for safety and service

The minister said safety and passenger convenience are non-negotiable. He added that the warning applies to all airlines and that senior executives, including CEOs, will be held accountable if operational failures continue. The ministry said the focus is on restoring confidence in the aviation system.
