Google To Invest $10 Billion In Anthropic

Google will invest $10 billion in Anthropic, strengthening its financial and cloud partnership with one of the world’s fastest-growing artificial intelligence companies. Another $30 billion could follow if Anthropic meets specific performance targets.

Google Anthropic Investment Deal

The latest investment values Anthropic at around $350 billion. The immediate $10 billion funding will deepen Google’s position in the AI race, where major technology companies are competing to support and benefit from advanced AI startups.

The deal also includes the possibility of another $30 billion in investment if Anthropic achieves agreed business and performance milestones.

Anthropic Expands AI Computing Capacity

Anthropic has been raising large amounts of capital to support demand for its AI products, including Claude Code, an AI tool used by software developers. The company is also expanding computing capacity through Google Cloud and Google’s tensor processing units, known as TPUs.

Google Cloud is expected to provide several gigawatts of computing capacity to Anthropic over the next few years. This gives Anthropic access to large-scale AI infrastructure while helping Google grow its cloud and chip business.

Google And Anthropic Compete In AI

The partnership also comes with competitive tension. Google and Anthropic are both trying to build advanced AI systems and win enterprise customers. Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, including CEO Dario Amodei, who previously worked at Google as an AI researcher.

The investment highlights how leading AI firms now depend heavily on cloud providers, chips and data centre capacity. Analysts have also raised concerns about circular AI deals, where major tech companies invest in startups that later spend heavily on their infrastructure.
