Golden Temple Gets Second Bomb Threat in 24 Hours
The Golden Temple in Amritsar received a second bomb threat within 24 hours, triggering heightened security measures around the sacred complex. The threat was issued through an email on July 15, claiming that RDX explosives had been planted inside the Temple’s pipes and included a specific time for detonation.
Police and SGPC Respond Swiftly
Following the threat, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Punjab Police acted immediately. Bomb detection squads, sniffer dogs, commandos, and additional security forces were deployed in and around the premises. All entry and exit points were sealed and thoroughly checked. Devotees were allowed inside only after undergoing strict security screening.
FIR Filed, Cyber Investigation Begins
An FIR has been registered, and cybercrime teams have been tasked with tracing the origin of the email. SGPC officials have also appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for a high-level investigation. Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla called for zero tolerance in matters concerning religious institutions and demanded strict action against those responsible.
SGPC Condemns Threats
SGPC Secretary Pratap Singh condemned the email threats, saying such attempts were clearly aimed at spreading panic and disturbing the religious environment. He assured devotees that there is no immediate danger but urged everyone to remain alert and cooperate with security checks.
Past Security Incidents
This is not the first time the Golden Temple has faced threats. It remains a sensitive location, having witnessed past explosions and hoax calls. Given its status as one of the holiest sites for Sikhs, the authorities continue to treat every threat with utmost seriousness.
Situation Under Control
As of now, no explosives have been found. Police teams are continuing their search and have maintained a strong presence in and around the complex. Officials have urged the public to remain calm and assured that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of visitors.
