Goa Nightclub Owner Breaks Silence After Fire Tragedy
Saurabh Luthra, owner of Birch by Romeo Lane, has spoken publicly for the first time after the nightclub fire in Goa that killed 25 people. The incident, which occurred late Saturday, has triggered a major investigation and led to multiple arrests.
In his statement, Luthra said he was “deeply saddened” by the loss of lives and expressed condolences to the families affected.
Owner Responds Amid Police Scrutiny
Luthra said he is cooperating with the authorities as they probe the cause of the fire. Police have named him, his brother, and senior staff members in an FIR alleging safety violations at the venue. Officials said Luthra had not responded immediately after the incident, which raised further questions.
He denied allegations that he ignored safety norms and said he would support the inquiry.
Early Findings Point To Safety Lapses
Investigators have said the club lacked several mandatory approvals, including key construction and fire safety clearances. Narrow access roads also slowed rescue efforts. Some parts of the structure reportedly had pending demolition notices.
Goa’s Chief Minister ordered a magisterial inquiry, promised strict action, and announced compensation for the families of those who died.
Public Anger And Demand For Accountability
The tragedy has sparked public outrage, with many pointing to weak regulation and poor enforcement in Goa’s nightlife hubs. Citizens and safety experts have demanded tighter monitoring of clubs and restaurants to prevent similar incidents.
Authorities say accountability will be fixed once the investigation concludes.
