Gillespie Criticizes Cricket Australia’s Border-Gavaskar Focus Over Pakistan Series
Pakistan’s interim white-ball head coach, Jason Gillespie, has voiced concerns over Cricket Australia’s emphasis on the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, while the ongoing Pakistan white-ball tour has received little promotional attention.
The former Australian pacer noted that Cricket Australia’s decision appeared to focus primarily on India’s tour, overshadowing Pakistan’s ODI series.
Lack of Promotion for Pakistan Series Surprises Gillespie
Gillespie shared his thoughts in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, stating, “To be honest, I pretty much saw no promotion of our one-day series by Cricket Australia, which was a bit of a surprise. It’s pretty obvious that they’re prioritizing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against India.” While acknowledging that Fox, the official broadcaster, generally produces impressive promos, Gillespie observed that Pakistan’s tour received minimal attention.
Convincing Victory Despite Low Publicity
Despite the low-key publicity, Pakistan delivered a commanding performance, defeating Australia 2-1 in the ODI series. Gillespie praised Pakistan’s bowling lineup for highlighting flaws in Australia’s batting approach, commenting, “What we saw in this series is our bowling exposed some flaws in the Australian batting.” He expects the Australian side to address these issues in future series.
Reflecting on the series win, Gillespie added, “It was pleasing not just to beat Australia but to beat them pretty convincingly,” underscoring the impact of Pakistan’s win despite the lack of promotional efforts by Cricket Australia.
