Gill Travels to Guwahati, Yet Doubtful for 2nd Test
Shubman Gill, India’s Test captain, is set to travel with the team to Guwahati for the second Test against South Africa national cricket team despite a neck injury sustained in the first Test in Kolkata. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Gill will be monitored by the medical team, but his participation in the match remains uncertain.
Background of the Injury
Gill was forced to retire hurt during the first innings of the Test after sustaining a neck injury. He did not bat further and was hospitalised for a brief period before being discharged. The medical team has reported he is “responding well” to treatment. The second Test is scheduled to begin on 22 November 2025 in Guwahati.
Team Implications
While Gill travels with the squad, his availability for the match will only be determined closer to the start date depending on the outcome of medical assessments. Should he be ruled out, vice-captain Rishabh Pant may take the lead. India will need to revise their playing XI in his absence, and team management will be closely watching the fitness update in the next 24–48 hours.
