India captain Shubman Gill has dismissed reports that Rohit Sharma is preparing to retire from international cricket, saying the senior opener has not discussed ending his ODI career with the team.

Speaking after India’s 27-run defeat against England in the third ODI at Lord’s, Gill said speculation surrounding Rohit’s future had only appeared in media reports.
“He’s not told us anything. I think it’s all out in the media, but there’s not been any discussion like that in the team,” Gill said.
Reports before the series decider had suggested that the Lord’s match could be Rohit’s final international appearance as selectors considered India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
However, neither Rohit nor the national selectors have announced any decision concerning his future. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had also rejected the speculation before the match, stating that the Lord’s ODI would not be Rohit’s last.
Rohit Sharma Scores Century at Lord’s
Rohit responded to the retirement discussion by producing a commanding 138 from 110 deliveries during India’s pursuit of England’s imposing 388-run target.
The 39-year-old struck 17 fours and five sixes, becoming the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at Lord’s. He shared a 147-run opening partnership with Gill, who contributed 77.
Rohit later added 113 with Virat Kohli before Jacob Bethell bowled him in the 39th over, ending an innings that had kept India within reach of the target.
India Lose England ODI Series
Despite Rohit’s century and Kohli’s 74, India finished on 360 for seven and lost the series 2-1.
England had earlier posted a Lord’s ODI record of 387 for three, led by Ben Duckett’s 141 and Bethell’s 91. Sam Curran claimed four wickets during India’s chase to secure England’s victory.
Rohit has already retired from Test and T20 international cricket but remains available for selection in the ODI format.
