Gill Checks In at CoE for Fitness Ahead of Asia Cup
Shubman Gill, India’s Test captain and T20I vice-captain, has reported to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for a mandatory fitness test ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. Gill had recently recovered from a flu infection that forced him to skip the Duleep Trophy quarterfinals.
Teamwide Fitness Drive
Gill is part of a larger group of Asia Cup–bound players undergoing assessments at the CoE. Among those present are Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Jitesh Sharma. The BCCI has made these tests compulsory to ensure every player is cleared for match fitness before the squad travels.
Road to Asia Cup
Once cleared, Gill and his teammates will depart from Bengaluru to join the squad in Dubai. India will begin its Asia Cup campaign on September 10 against the UAE, following the tournament opener on September 9. The team is expected to travel in phases to allow players maximum recovery and preparation time.
