Gaganyaan Mission 90% Work Complete

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has confirmed that nearly 90% of the developmental work for India’s first human spaceflight mission, Gaganyaan, is complete. Chairman V Narayanan said the mission is progressing steadily with critical systems nearing readiness.

Crewed Flight Targeted for 2027

ISRO has set early 2027 as the target for the first crewed mission. Before that, three uncrewed test flights will be conducted to validate the spacecraft’s safety and reliability. These missions will assess the performance of the launch vehicle, crew module, and escape systems.

Key Technologies Developed

The mission involves several advanced technologies, including human-rating the launch vehicle, developing an orbital module, and setting up environmental control and life-support systems. The crew-escape mechanism and parachute systems are also in final stages of testing.

Future Plans Beyond Gaganyaan

Officials said that once Gaganyaan is successfully executed, the technology base created will help India pursue larger goals such as setting up its own space station in the coming decade.
