FS Misri Meets UAE Minister to Review Growing Bilateral Partnership

India Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a series of high-level meetings in the United Arab Emirates, reaffirming the rapidly expanding strategic and economic partnership between the two nations. The visit was aimed at conducting a mid-year review of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, focusing on key sectors of bilateral cooperation.

Strategic Review of India–UAE Cooperation

Misri met with Reem Al Hashimy, UAE’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, to assess ongoing and future collaboration in fields including trade, investment, energy, culture, defense, technology, and consular services. The discussions sought to build on the momentum created by the UAE’s $10 billion investment commitment to India in 2024, and to operationalize previous agreements.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of institutional mechanisms, economic corridors, and cultural exchange to drive sustained engagement across all levels.

Shared Commitment to Counter-Terrorism

A significant focus of Misri’s visit was enhancing counter-terrorism coordination. He met with Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, and Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, who chairs the UAE National Council’s Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee. These meetings reinforced a shared stance against terrorism and extremism, with both parties committing to intensify cooperation on intelligence sharing and global security frameworks.

The discussions come amid rising regional security concerns and follow India’s recent security challenges in Kashmir, particularly the terror attack in Pahalgam, for which the UAE extended its solidarity.

Acknowledging the Indian Diaspora in UAE

Misri also conveyed India’s appreciation for the UAE’s continued support of the 4.3 million–strong Indian expatriate community. The diaspora plays a vital role in deepening people-to-people relations, contributing to both economies, and serving as a bridge in bilateral understanding.

He emphasized India’s intent to expand consular services, ensure community welfare, and promote collaborative educational and cultural initiatives.

Foundation of Deepening Engagement

The visit follows recent milestones in India-UAE relations, including the 15th Joint Commission Meeting, multiple parliamentary exchanges, and high-profile economic dialogues. The mid-year review reflects a deliberate effort by both nations to maintain strategic alignment and transform diplomatic momentum into tangible outcomes.
