France Says Lebanon Must Be In Ceasefire
France has said the ceasefire between Iran and the United States must also apply to Lebanon, warning that continued Israeli military action there could weaken the fragile truce. The statement came as French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot condemned what he described as “massive” Israeli strikes carried out a day earlier and called for a broader regional de-escalation.
France Says Lebanon Must Be Part Of Ceasefire
Barrot said any credible ceasefire arrangement between Washington and Tehran must also include Lebanon. His remarks highlighted growing concern in Europe that limiting the truce to Iran alone could leave another front of the conflict active and risk undoing wider diplomatic efforts. France’s position adds pressure for a more comprehensive ceasefire framework that addresses multiple theatres of tension at once.
France Condemns Massive Israeli Strikes
The French foreign minister criticised the scale of Israel’s latest strikes in Lebanon, which came amid uncertainty over whether Lebanon was covered by the ceasefire understanding. The attacks triggered fresh concern internationally because they threatened to widen or prolong instability just as efforts were being made to reduce direct confrontation between Iran and the United States. France has been among the countries calling for stronger protection of Lebanon’s sovereignty and for restraint from all sides.
Pakistan Talks And Iran Concessions In Focus
Barrot also said he expected Iran to make a number of concessions in the upcoming peace talks scheduled to begin in Pakistan. Those expectations include steps related to Iran’s nuclear and missile posture, regional armed networks and freedom of navigation. His remarks suggest that European powers see the Pakistan talks as a key next stage in trying to turn a temporary ceasefire into a broader diplomatic settlement.
