France Holds Talks On Reopening Hormuz

France has held discussions with 35 countries on plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz once hostilities in West Asia come to an end, as concerns continue to grow over the disruption of one of the world’s most important shipping routes.

France Leads Talks On Hormuz Reopening

France’s armed forces chief held a videoconference with representatives from 35 countries across multiple regions to discuss how maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz could resume after the conflict. The French defence ministry said the consultations were aimed at preparing for the safe return of commercial shipping once the fighting stops.

Mission Described As Strictly Defensive

French officials said the initiative is independent of ongoing military operations and is strictly defensive in nature. The effort is focused on post-conflict maritime security rather than participation in current combat activity. The objective is to ensure that merchant vessels and energy shipments can move again through the strategic waterway without further disruption.

Strait Of Hormuz Remains Vital For Global Trade

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy and trade chokepoints, with major volumes of oil and gas passing through it. Any long disruption affects global shipping, fuel markets and supply chains. France’s outreach to dozens of countries shows that governments are already preparing for a coordinated international role in restoring secure passage once the conflict de-escalates.
