Foxconn Hires 30,000 Workers at New Women-Led Unit
Foxconn has hired around 30,000 workers at its new manufacturing unit near Bengaluru, marking one of the fastest workforce expansions in India’s electronics sector. The facility, located in Devanahalli, has been positioned as a women-led unit and is part of the company’s broader push to scale up smartphone manufacturing in India.
Rapid Hiring at Bengaluru Facility
The recruitment drive has taken place over a period of roughly eight to nine months. A significant majority of the newly hired employees are women, many of them young and entering formal industrial employment for the first time. The unit has already moved beyond trial runs and is engaged in full-scale production, mainly focused on assembling smartphones.
Focus on Women Workforce
Women are estimated to make up nearly 80 percent of the workforce at the Devanahalli unit. Foxconn has put in place structured training programmes to prepare employees for assembly-line work. The company has also developed dormitories and basic support facilities for workers, with plans to expand housing and amenities as operations grow.
Role in Global Supply Chain
The Bengaluru unit is part of Apple’s supply chain diversification strategy, as manufacturing is gradually expanded outside China. A large share of the devices assembled at the facility are meant for export markets, underlining India’s growing role in global electronics manufacturing.
Expansion Plans
Foxconn is expected to continue hiring as production ramps up, with the workforce projected to increase further once the unit reaches full capacity. The development is seen as a boost for local employment and aligns with India’s push to become a major electronics manufacturing hub.
