Four Held in Delhi Teen Gangrape-Murder Case
A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area, with police apprehending four suspects, including three minors. The victim’s decomposed body was discovered in an open field on September 13, days after investigators believe the crime occurred.
Four Apprehended in Delhi Gangrape-Murder Case
Police said the girl had gone to meet a 17-year-old boy she knew on September 10. Three of his friends allegedly joined them before the girl was sexually assaulted.
Investigators allege that she was subsequently stabbed after threatening to approach police. Her body was then allegedly dumped in a field near Kushak Road.
The four suspects include a 19-year-old man and three juveniles aged 16 and 17. Police are continuing to establish the individual role of each person in the alleged offences.
CCTV Footage Helped Police Trace Suspects
The victim could not initially be identified because her body was in an advanced state of decomposition. Police registered a case after the post-mortem examination and began analysing surveillance footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras.
Investigators eventually identified a tempo moving near the area around the suspected time of the crime. Tracking the vehicle across multiple cameras helped police locate it and identify people allegedly connected with the case.
A night-long search operation subsequently led to the apprehension of all four suspects.
Police Recover Knives, Forensic Probe Continues
Police said two knives allegedly connected with the crime, clothing reportedly worn by the suspects and the tempo have been recovered.
The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Investigators said forensic and technical evidence is being examined to establish the complete sequence of events and determine whether anyone else was involved.
