Fortis to Acquire Bengaluru’s People Tree Hospital
Fortis Healthcare has announced plans to acquire People Tree Hospital in Bengaluru for ₹430 crore, strengthening its presence in one of India’s fastest-growing healthcare markets. The acquisition will be carried out through Fortis’ wholly owned subsidiary, International Hospital Limited, and involves a 100 percent stake in TMI Healthcare, which operates the hospital.
Details of the Acquisition
People Tree Hospital is a 125-bed multi-specialty facility located in Yeshwanthpur, a key healthcare and residential hub in Bengaluru. As part of the transaction, Fortis will acquire the hospital’s land and building, along with an adjoining parcel that offers scope for future expansion. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
Expansion and Investment Plans
Fortis has said it plans to invest an additional ₹410 crore over the next three years to scale up the facility. Following the investment, the hospital’s bed capacity is expected to increase to more than 300 beds. The expansion will focus on strengthening key specialties such as cardiology, orthopaedics, neurosciences, renal sciences and gastroenterology, along with advanced critical care services.
Strategic Rationale
The acquisition aligns with Fortis’ cluster-based growth strategy in Bengaluru, where it already operates multiple hospitals. By expanding capacity in the city, Fortis aims to meet rising demand for tertiary and quaternary care and improve operational efficiencies across its network.
Outlook
Fortis said the transaction will help deepen its footprint in southern India and support long-term growth in high-demand urban healthcare markets.
