Fire at Dhaka Airport, Flights Suspended
A fire broke out in the cargo section of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday, leading to a temporary suspension of all flights. Authorities later brought the situation under control, and operations resumed after nearly six hours.
Cargo Section Damaged
The blaze began in the airport’s cargo village near Gate 8. Fire services, assisted by military and naval units, managed to douse the flames. No casualties have been reported so far.
Flights Diverted and Delayed
Several domestic and international flights were delayed or diverted during the suspension. Inbound international flights were redirected to nearby airports, including Kolkata, until services restarted.
Probe into Cause of Fire
The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism confirmed that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire. Officials said additional safety measures will be taken to avoid such incidents in the future.
