Final Batch of Apache Helicopters Arrives in India

India has received the final batch of Apache AH-64E attack helicopters, completing the delivery of all six aircraft ordered for the Indian Army under a defence procurement agreement with the United States. The latest batch of three helicopters arrived at Hindon Air Force Station near Delhi and will now undergo assembly, checks and formal induction procedures.

Strengthening Army Aviation Capability

With the arrival of the last batch, the Indian Army’s Aviation Corps now has the full complement of six Apache helicopters designated for operational deployment. The helicopters are expected to be stationed with the Army Aviation unit based in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, where they will significantly enhance the Army’s attack and close air support capabilities.

Role and Features of the Apache

The AH-64E Apache is a modern attack helicopter equipped with advanced sensors, precision-guided weapons, night-fighting capability and network-centric warfare systems. Designed for high-intensity combat, the platform is capable of operating in diverse terrains, including deserts and high-altitude regions. The induction of the Apache strengthens the Army’s ability to support ground forces during both conventional and limited conflict scenarios.

Defence Cooperation Context

The delivery marks another milestone in India–US defence cooperation, which has expanded steadily over the years through major platform acquisitions and joint exercises. The Apache helicopters were delivered in two phases, with the first batch arriving earlier and the final batch completing the order.

Operational Induction Ahead

Following technical inspections and training formalities, the helicopters are expected to be fully operational. Defence officials said the induction will provide a major boost to the Army’s combat readiness and aviation firepower.
