Farooq Abdullah Escapes Attack In Jammu

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah escaped an assassination attempt in Jammu after a man opened fire at a wedding venue where he was present along with Jammu and Kashmir deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary. The shot missed, no injuries were reported, and the accused was overpowered at the scene before being taken into custody.

Farooq Abdullah Assassination Attempt In Jammu

The incident took place at a wedding function in Jammu’s Greater Kailash area on Wednesday evening. According to early reports, the attacker managed to get close to Abdullah before firing a shot. Security personnel and people at the venue quickly intervened, preventing any further harm. The incident has raised serious questions over how an armed man was able to reach such close range despite Abdullah being under high-level security cover.

Gunman Detained After Wedding Venue Firing

Police detained the accused immediately after the firing and recovered the weapon used in the attack. Initial reports said the man told investigators he had wanted to kill Farooq Abdullah for nearly 20 years and described it as a personal agenda. Officials have indicated that the weapon was a licensed firearm, and early indications pointed more towards an individual act than an organised terror plot. However, the investigation is continuing and authorities are expected to examine both motive and possible security lapses.

Security Questions After Farooq Abdullah Attack

The attack has triggered political and security concern in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly because the firing happened in a crowded public setting. Omar Abdullah said his father had a very close shave and questioned how an armed person could get so near a protectee with Z-plus level security. The case is now likely to focus not only on the attacker’s motive but also on the failure that allowed the threat to reach point-blank range.
