Fadnavis Vows to Recover Nagpur Riot Damages from Accused

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced strong measures in response to the recent outbreak of violence in Nagpur. Addressing media after reviewing the situation, he made it clear that those found guilty of involvement in the riots would be held financially accountable for the destruction caused. “The cost of total damages caused during the riots will be calculated and will be recovered from the rioters themselves. If they fail to pay for the damages, their property will be sold,” he said.

Fadnavis affirmed that Maharashtra would implement its own stringent system to ensure accountability, making it clear that rioters will not be spared. He underscored that action will go beyond arrests and will include financial penalties as a deterrent for any such future incidents.

92 Arrested, Social Media Under Scrutiny

Providing updates on law enforcement action, Fadnavis revealed that 104 individuals have been identified in connection with the violence, and 92 have already been arrested. Among them, 12 are minors. Authorities are also focusing on digital platforms, having taken down 68 inflammatory posts linked to the incident. He warned that anyone found inciting violence through social media will be treated as a co-accused, regardless of whether they were physically present at the scene or not.

Investigation Expands Beyond State Borders

The Deputy CM dismissed claims of a complete intelligence failure but acknowledged that intelligence gathering should have been more effective. He also disclosed that while several inflammatory social media accounts traced back to Bangladesh were flagged, no direct foreign involvement has been confirmed. The investigation is still ongoing and is expected to cover every angle thoroughly.

Security Tightened Ahead of PM Visit

Despite the recent unrest, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Nagpur on March 30 will go ahead as planned. Fadnavis confirmed that all necessary precautions will be taken to ensure security during the event, and the state government is working to maintain public order.

This firm stance by the Maharashtra government aims to reinforce law and order and ensure that public property destruction comes at a cost to those responsible. The message is clear: acts of violence will not only lead to arrest but also to direct financial consequences.
