Fadnavis Says Government ‘Stable’ After Uddhav Meet

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday firmly stated that the state’s ruling coalition remains “stable” and united, amid growing speculation following his recent meeting with Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray. He was speaking alongside Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar during a press interaction in Mumbai.

“Hum majboot hain (We are strong),” Fadnavis said, addressing rumours that his Wednesday meeting with Thackeray indicated political realignment.

Meeting Described as “Non-Political”

The meeting between Fadnavis and Uddhav Thackeray took place on Thursday at Vidhan Bhavan and reportedly lasted for about 30 minutes. Aaditya Thackeray and several other leaders were also present. Officials from both sides described the conversation as a routine discussion on administrative matters, including policies related to Marathi language promotion.

Fadnavis clarified that his previous comments inviting Uddhav to “come to our side” were made in jest. “There is no confusion in our alliance,” he said.

United Front From Shinde and Pawar

Both Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar echoed Fadnavis’s stance during the press conference. Shinde called the meeting a “non-issue” and reaffirmed that the three-party coalition—comprising BJP, Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP—is functioning cohesively. Pawar also reiterated that there is no threat to the government’s stability.

Their joint appearance was aimed at signalling that the alliance remains intact ahead of the upcoming civic body elections.

Political Mood Steady for Now

The comments from all three top leaders have been seen as an effort to counter any speculation about shifting loyalties or backdoor talks. Political observers suggest that while informal dialogues may happen in corridors of power, the ruling coalition is not currently under threat.

For now, the state’s focus appears to remain on administrative governance, with all major partners aligned on keeping the alliance functional through the upcoming electoral season.
