Fadnavis Alleges Pro-Pak Slogans At Thackeray-Linked Events
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis accused rivals linked to Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray of allowing “pro-Pakistan slogans” to be raised at some campaign events ahead of the upcoming civic body elections. He said such slogans are inappropriate in a civic poll focused on local governance and development.
Political Context
The accusation came as parties step up campaigning for the 29 municipal corporation elections across Maharashtra, including the key Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation polls. Fadnavis has been critical of the alliance between Uddhav Thackeray and MNS leader Raj Thackeray, saying it will not affect the ruling Mahayuti bloc’s prospects and that BJP-led teams will perform well in most seats.
Opposition Response
Leaders associated with the Thackeray camp have not publicly justified the alleged slogans, and there is no independent confirmation of pro-Pakistan chants at rallies. Political campaigning has been intense with various leaders addressing local issues and voter concerns.
Election Focus
Civic polls in Maharashtra are being seen as a test of party strength ahead of future state assembly contests, with development and urban services emerging as key voter issues.
