Facebook Takes 30% Stake In Reliance AI Venture

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has formalised a joint venture with Meta Platforms’s subsidiary, Facebook Overseas, incorporating a new entity named Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL) on 24 October 2025. Under the amended joint-venture agreement, Reliance’s wholly owned subsidiary, Reliance Intelligence Limited, will hold 70% of REIL, while Facebook Overseas will hold 30%.

Financial and Strategic Commitments

The two parties have committed an initial investment of approximately ₹855 crore into the venture. REIL will focus on developing, marketing and distributing enterprise-grade artificial-intelligence services. The collaboration will leverage Meta’s open-source Llama models combined with Reliance’s enterprise and digital infrastructure.

Industry Implications

This alliance marks a strategic push by both companies into India’s enterprise-AI space, signalling intensifying competition in generative-AI platforms and services. For Reliance, it strengthens its position beyond telecom and retail into deep tech. For Meta, it offers closer access to the Indian enterprise market. The 70:30 structure indicates Reliance maintains majority control while still partnering with a global AI-platform leader.
