Explosion Derails Pakistan’s Jaffar Express, Injures Several
A powerful blast struck the Quetta-bound Jaffar Express near Sultan Kot, between Shikarpur and Jacobabad in Pakistan, leading to the derailment of six coaches and injuring multiple passengers, officials said.
Incident and Aftermath
The explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) placed on the railway track, authorities reported. Rescue teams and security forces quickly reached the site, attending to the injured and securing the area. Internal inspection of the damaged coaches is underway.
Claim of Responsibility
A Baloch rebel group calling itself the Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) claimed responsibility for the attack. According to their statement, they targeted the train because Pakistani Army personnel were allegedly onboard. So far, no official confirmation has been given regarding military staff on that train.
Pattern of Attacks on This Route
The Jaffar Express has been attacked before this year. In June 2025, a bomb blast derailed six bogies near Jacobabad without reported casualties. That incident highlights increasing threats to rail security along the route.
Response and Investigation
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the blast, with forensic teams collecting evidence and examining the site. Rail services on affected tracks have been temporarily suspended. The federal government has condemned the violence and vowed to intensify security on trains traveling through volatile regions.
