Ex–US Official Criticizes Pakistan Army Chief

Former Pentagon official Michael Rubin has launched a sharp attack on Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, describing him as “Osama Bin Laden in a suit.” The remark was made in response to what Rubin called dangerous and provocative nuclear rhetoric by Munir during his recent visit to the United States.

Nuclear Rhetoric Sparks Alarm

Rubin’s comments referred to reported statements by Munir suggesting that if Pakistan “goes down, it will take half the world down with it.” Such remarks have raised concerns in diplomatic circles about Pakistan’s nuclear posture and its impact on regional stability. Rubin said this kind of language was reminiscent of extremist threats and completely unacceptable from a military leader.

Critique of U.S. Policy and Trump’s Approach

Rubin also criticised U.S. President Donald Trump’s engagement with Munir and Pakistan’s military establishment. He argued that Trump’s stance undervalues India’s strategic importance and misjudges the risks of legitimising leaders who issue nuclear threats. His comments add to growing tensions in U.S.–Pakistan–India relations at a time of heightened geopolitical competition.
