Europe and NATO Back Ukraine Ahead of Trump–Putin Summit
Ahead of the August 15 summit in Alaska between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, European leaders and NATO officials are calling for Ukraine to be part of the conversation. They warn that excluding Ukraine could lead to unfair outcomes.
Nations Speak with One Voice
Leaders from countries including Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Finland, along with EU foreign policy head Kaja Kallas and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, issued a strong joint message emphasizing that:
- Ukraine must participate in negotiations affecting its future.
- Any peace deal must uphold Ukraine’s security and sovereignty.
They reaffirmed that decisions made without Ukraine’s input would be invalid and harmful.
Zelenskyy Seeks Seat at the Table
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is pushing to participate in the summit. He has received support from NATO and EU partners and insists that meaningful peace cannot be negotiated without Ukraine being present.
