EU Seeks Deeper India Ties but Raises Russia Concerns

The European Commission has announced plans to strengthen its partnership with India in trade, defence, technology, and climate. These measures are part of a strategy to move EU-India relations to the “next level.”

Free Trade Deal by Year-End

Negotiations are underway to finalise a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the end of 2025. The pact is expected to cover investment protection, supply chains, air transport, and cooperation in green hydrogen, decarbonisation, and innovation.

Concerns Over Russia Ties

EU officials expressed concern about India’s growing cooperation with Russia, including joint military exercises and increased oil imports. These ties, they warned, could complicate deeper strategic cooperation between India and the EU.
