EU Chief Says “Successful India” Makes World More Stable
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that a “successful India” makes the world “more stable, prosperous and secure”, a remark made during her India visit as New Delhi and the European Union prepare for summit-level talks.
In a public message after attending India’s Republic Day celebrations, von der Leyen described her participation as an “honour of a lifetime” and linked India’s progress to broader global stability. She added that “we all benefit” from India’s success.
Trade Deal Talks in Focus
Her comments come ahead of discussions expected to focus on a long-pending India-EU free trade agreement that has been described by senior EU leadership as a potentially “historic” deal. The proposed agreement is being pitched as a major step in deepening economic ties between India and the 27-nation bloc.
Von der Leyen is visiting India for high-level engagements with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the trade pact and strategic cooperation likely to dominate the agenda.
