Encounter Breaks Out in J&K’s Poonch, One Soldier Injured

A fierce encounter erupted on the night of April 14, 2025, in Lasana village in the Surankote area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, as Indian security forces engaged suspected terrorists in a joint anti-insurgency operation. The mission, dubbed “Operation Lasana,” was launched based on credible intelligence inputs regarding the movement of militants in the region.

During the initial exchange of fire, one Army personnel sustained injuries and was immediately evacuated for medical treatment. The condition of the injured soldier is reported to be stable. Search operations have since intensified in the surrounding forested terrain to ensure that the terrorists are located and neutralized.

Massive Search Operation Launched

The encounter led to a temporary lull in gunfire as security forces regrouped and expanded their cordon around the area. Additional troops from the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have been deployed to strengthen the perimeter and prevent any escape of the militants involved.

The security forces are using drones and thermal imaging devices to sweep the dense forests of the Pir Panjal range, where militants are suspected to be hiding. Roadblocks and checkpoints have also been set up across the district as part of the containment strategy.

Broader Anti-Terror Drive in the Region

This encounter is part of a larger crackdown on terror networks operating in Jammu and Kashmir. In recent weeks, similar joint operations have been conducted in districts like Kupwara and Kishtwar, underscoring the continued threat of cross-border infiltration and local sleeper cells.

Officials stated that the security operation in Poonch will continue until all threats are neutralized. Residents in the area have been advised to remain indoors and cooperate with the authorities as the situation develops.

The encounter highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, even as forces remain on high alert in anticipation of possible escalations in the run-up to the summer months.
