Election Commission to Announce Maharashtra, Jharkhand Poll Dates Toda
The Election Commission of India (EC) is set to announce the schedule for the upcoming Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections today, October 15, 2024. The announcement will be made during a press conference in New Delhi at 3:30 PM, providing critical details on the polling process for both states.
Maharashtra and Jharkhand Election Schedule
The term of the Maharashtra Assembly is slated to end on November 26, while the tenure of the Jharkhand Assembly concludes on January 5, 2025. With both state elections approaching, today’s announcement will clarify the timelines, deadlines, and other electoral logistics that will shape the upcoming democratic process.
Lok Sabha and Assembly Bypolls
In addition to the general elections, the EC is expected to address bypolls for three vacant Lok Sabha seats and several Assembly seats. Notably, the Lok Sabha constituencies of Wayanad (Kerala), Nanded (Maharashtra), and Basirhat (West Bengal) are currently vacant.
The Wayanad seat was vacated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who retained his Rae Bareli seat after winning in both constituencies during the Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, Congress MP Vasant Chavan, representing Nanded, and TMC MP Haji Sheikh Nurul Islam, representing Basirhat, passed away, leaving these seats open for bypolls.
