Edappadi Palaniswami Says Talks Between Allies Must Stay Private

Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS), leader of the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, has ruled out making public the details of discussions between its alliance partners. He emphasized that some agreement terms remain confidential between parties—even as he assured the public that AIADMK would lead government formation if the NDA wins the 2026 state election.

Internal Alliance Communications Stay Confidential

EPS stated that alliance negotiations cannot be shared openly with the media. He underlined the importance of discretion, adding that public messaging will be managed carefully to maintain trust within the alliance. He also reiterated that the AIADMK clearly expects to lead the coalition if it wins enough seats.

No Power-Sharing Ahead of Elections

EPS clarified that there will be no power-sharing announcement before the polls. While BJP leaders have mentioned a coalition arrangement, EPS made it clear the AIADMK will take charge once the election results come in. He said revealing too many details now could unsettle party supporters.

Alliance Scope and Upcoming Visit by PM

His remarks came ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to Tamil Nadu on July 26. Modi is expected to attend the birth anniversary celebrations of the Chola emperor Rajendra Chola in Chidambaram and inaugurate development projects in Thoothukudi. EPS confirmed he will seek a meeting with the Prime Minister during the visit.

Strategic Messaging to Voters

EPS also used the opportunity to criticize the ruling DMK government, questioning its record over the past term. He announced plans to distribute pamphlets highlighting unmet promises and encouraged voters to rate the government’s performance out of ten. This campaign initiative underscores the AIADMK’s strategy to position itself as a stable alternative.

Broader Context of Tamil Nadu Politics

The NDA in Tamil Nadu includes AIADMK, BJP, and the AMMK faction led by TTV Dhinakaran. EPS declined to comment on Dhinakaran’s role but focused on the consolidated message that AIADMK leads the alliance. He emphasized that public statements will reflect unity and a clear power hierarchy.

As Tamil Nadu gears up for the 2026 polls, alliance dynamics, messaging discipline, and electoral strategies remain under close observation.
