ED Raids TN Minister Periyasamy and Son

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out search operations on Saturday at multiple properties linked to Tamil Nadu Rural Development Minister I. Periyasamy and his son, I. P. Senthilkumar, who is also a DMK MLA. The action was part of an ongoing money-laundering probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Scope of the Raids

Raids were conducted at residences, offices, and other premises connected to the minister and his family in Chennai, Dindigul, and surrounding areas. Officials examined financial documents, records, and assets during the operation.

Charges of Disproportionate Assets

The investigation is tied to allegations that the family accumulated around ₹2.1 crore in assets disproportionate to their known sources of income between 2006 and 2010. The case had earlier been directed by the Madras High Court to proceed with framing of charges.

Political Fallout

The raids have triggered sharp political reactions. Leaders from the DMK have described the move as an act of political vendetta, accusing central agencies of being selectively deployed against opposition figures.
