EC Transfers 13 IAS and 20 IPS Officers in Bengal

The Election Commission has ordered a fresh administrative reshuffle in poll-bound West Bengal, transferring 13 IAS officers and 20 IPS officers as part of preparations for the 2026 Assembly elections. The move comes shortly after the election schedule was announced and adds to a series of changes already made in the state’s top administrative and police structure.

Bengal IAS and IPS Transfers

The latest reshuffle includes 13 district magistrates, who also serve as district election officers, along with 20 IPS officers posted in important policing roles. The Election Commission has been carrying out these changes in phases, and earlier rounds had already affected senior positions including the chief secretary, home secretary, director general of police and Kolkata police commissioner.

The transfers are part of the Commission’s effort to ensure neutrality and tighter monitoring during the election process. Such changes are commonly made in politically sensitive states to reduce concerns over administrative bias and to strengthen confidence in the conduct of the polls. Some officers are also understood to have been moved away from election-linked responsibilities during the poll period.

West Bengal Poll Preparations Intensify

The scale of the reshuffle shows that the Commission is taking the Bengal election seriously and wants closer control over the administrative machinery. The changes have drawn attention because of their speed and size, especially as the state heads into a high-stakes Assembly contest. With several senior bureaucratic and police posts already altered, election preparations in West Bengal have now moved into a far more tightly supervised phase.
