EC To Order Pan-India SIR Before Year-End

The Election Commission (EC) of India is preparing to launch a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across the country. The exercise aims to verify, clean up, and update voter lists so that eligible voters are included and ineligible or duplicate entries are removed.

Meeting With State Officials

EC officials held a meeting with Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) from all states and union territories to review preparedness. They examined past roll revisions, current status of voter databases, and discussed the documents and procedures states may use to confirm voter eligibility.

Timeline And Date Window

Although no final date has been fixed, the EC is expected to decide soon. Officials indicated that the revision work is likely to be completed before the end of 2025.

Key Features And Rules

Some states have proposed new verification norms and document requirements. Suggestions include using proof of birthplace and date of birth documents, as seen in Bihar, along with house-to-house verification. Simplified norms are also being considered to reduce the risk of excluding eligible voters.
