EAM Jaishankar Backs US Critical Minerals Alliance

India has backed a proposal led by the United States to build a cooperative framework among partner countries to secure supplies of critical minerals used in advanced technologies and clean energy systems.

Jaishankar Supports Critical Minerals Bloc

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed support for the FORGE initiative, which aims to strengthen cooperation among trusted partners in securing and processing critical minerals. The proposal was highlighted by US Vice President JD Vance as part of efforts to reduce dependence on concentrated supply chains.

The initiative focuses on collaboration in mining, processing and technology sharing to improve supply resilience across participating economies.

Counter China Supply Chain Strategy

The framework is intended to diversify sourcing and reduce vulnerabilities in sectors such as semiconductors, batteries and defence manufacturing. Several countries have been working to expand mineral partnerships as demand rises for rare earth elements and battery metals.

Officials indicated that reliable access to these materials is becoming a strategic priority due to increasing electrification and digital infrastructure requirements.

India Role in Global Minerals Network

India’s participation would involve investment cooperation, exploration partnerships and refining capacity expansion. The country has been seeking greater integration into global technology supply chains while strengthening domestic processing capability.

The discussions reflect growing emphasis on trusted supply networks and industrial collaboration among strategic partners.
