Dwayne Bravo Retires from All Formats of Cricket After 23-Year Illustrious Career
West Indies legendary all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket following a groin injury.
Bravo was playing in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League where he was part of the Kieron Pollard led Trinbago Knight Riders and sustained the blow while attempting a catch from Faf du Plessis in the 7th over. He then came on to bat at 11 only to face just one delivery before retiring out as the ball thudded on to his thigh.
“Twenty-one years as a professional cricketer – it’s been an incredible journey, filled with many highs and a few lows,” Bravo wrote on his Instagram account.
“Most importantly, I was able to live my dream because I gave you 100 (per cent) at every step. As much as I’d love to continue this relationship, it’s time to face reality.
“My mind wants to keep going, but my body can no longer endure the pain, the breakdowns, and the strain. I can’t put myself in a position where I might let down my teammates, my fans, or the teams I represent.
“So, with a heavy heart, I officially announce my retirement from the sport. Today, the Champion bids farewell.”
Bravo, who is set to become 41 next month ends his career as the highest wicket taker in T20 cricket with 631 scalps from 582 games. He also has amassed over 6,000 runs.
Having won two T20I World Cup with the West Indies team, Bravo had a stellar domestic career that spanned for 23 years where he represented Trinidad and Tobago, Mumbai Indians, Victoria, Chennai Super Kings, Trinbago Knight Riders, Melbourne Renegades, Dolphins, Gujarat Lions, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Texas Super Kings.
