Dream11 Exits as Team India Jersey Sponsor

Dream11, the fantasy sports company, has begun discussions with the BCCI to withdraw from its ₹358 crore jersey sponsorship agreement. The move comes in the wake of the government’s ban on real-money online gaming, which makes advertising by such platforms illegal.

Shift in Business Model

Following the legislation, Dream11 has suspended all paid contests and announced that it will transition entirely to a free-to-play, social gaming model. The company said this shift is aimed at staying compliant with the new legal framework.

Sponsorship Uncertainty for BCCI

With the Asia Cup approaching, the BCCI is expected to issue fresh tenders for a new sponsor. If no replacement is finalized in time, Team India may take the field without a jersey sponsor during the tournament.

Broader Impact of Ban

The withdrawal highlights how the online gaming ban is reshaping sponsorship in Indian sports. Analysts note that the ruling could affect other partnerships across cricket and potentially reduce advertising revenues for major tournaments.
