DRDO Successfully Completes Guided Pinaka Weapon System Trials
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully concluded the flight tests of the Guided Pinaka Weapon System.
These tests were conducted across three phases at various field firing ranges to validate Provisional Staff Qualitative Requirements (PSQR).
The trials assessed key parameters such as range, accuracy, consistency, and rate of fire in salvo mode, demonstrating the system’s capability for engaging multiple targets. Twelve rockets from each production agency were tested using two upgraded in-service Pinaka launchers.
A Milestone in Indigenous Defence Technology
The Guided Pinaka is a precision strike variant of the Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket System. It has been fully indigenously designed and developed by DRDO’s Armament Research and Development Establishment in collaboration with Research Centre Imarat, Defence Research and Development Laboratory, and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory.
Munitions India Limited and Economic Explosives Limited are the production partners for ammunition, while Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Larsen & Toubro have developed the launchers and Battery Command Posts.
Boost to Artillery Firepower
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the successful trials, stating that the induction of the Guided Pinaka Weapon System would significantly enhance the artillery firepower of the Indian Armed Forces.
Dr. Samir V Kamat, Chairman DRDO, congratulated the teams involved, noting that the rocket system has completed all necessary flight trials and is now ready for induction into the Indian Army.
This accomplishment reinforces India’s commitment to developing advanced, indigenous defence systems.
