Doctor sleeps, accident victim bleeds to death in Meerut hospital

A 30-year-old man named Sunil from Hasanpur Kala village in Meerut died after allegedly being left untreated for several hours at Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College and Hospital (LLRM). The incident occurred around midnight on July 27–28 when Sunil was hit by a vehicle while walking home. He was brought to the emergency ward by police around 12:30 AM.

Despite his critical condition and heavy bleeding, Sunil reportedly received no immediate treatment. A viral video from the hospital shows a junior doctor sleeping in a chair with his feet up, unresponsive even as a woman tried to wake him up while holding a prescription and a child in her arms.

Family Blames Hospital, Authorities Defend Staff

Sunil died at 7 AM the next morning. His family accused the hospital of negligence, saying the delay in medical attention led to his death. Hospital authorities, however, claimed Sunil was already in a critical state when he arrived and had slim chances of survival.

Two Doctors Suspended, Inquiry Ordered

Following public outrage and media coverage, two junior resident doctors—Dr. Bhupesh Kumar Rai and Dr. Aniket—who were on duty that night were suspended. A three-member committee was formed by the college to investigate the matter, with a report expected within three days.

Separately, the Meerut District Magistrate ordered a district-level probe. A committee comprising senior health and administrative officials has been tasked with verifying facts and reviewing hospital protocols.

Protests Outside Hospital Demand Accountability

Angry villagers and Sunil’s family staged a protest outside the emergency ward, demanding strict action against those responsible. The incident has once again raised questions about accountability and working conditions in government hospitals.
