Doctor Arrested in Gujarat for Ricin-Linked Terror Plot

The Gujarat Anti‑Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a 35-year-old doctor from Hyderabad in Gujarat on suspicion of involvement in a terror plot linked to the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP). Authorities recovered two Glock pistols, one Beretta pistol, 30 live cartridges and four litres of castor oil—a precursor for the deadly toxin ricin. The accused was detained near the Adalaj toll plaza outside Ahmedabad.

Network and Intent

Following the arrest of the doctor, two additional suspects from Uttar Pradesh—one a tailor from Shamli and the other a student from Lakhimpur Kheri—were detained in connection with the operation. Investigators say the group conducted reconnaissance of sensitive sites in Delhi, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, and received arms shipments via drones from Pakistan. The main accused is alleged to have commenced chemical preparation of ricin with guidance from ISKP-linked handlers.

Significance and Next Steps

The case highlights an alarming convergence of chemical agents, drone-smuggled arms and cross-border terror links. Officials say the threats from non-state actors are evolving, underscoring the need for enhanced intelligence and inter-agency coordination. The ATS has registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act and relevant Indian Penal Code provisions. Investigations are ongoing to unravel the full network and possible additional conspirators.
