DMK, Congress In Seat-Sharing Talks For TN Polls
Seat-sharing negotiations between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Indian National Congress have begun ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Leaders from both parties have initiated discussions to determine the number of constituencies each party will contest as part of the ruling alliance in the state.
DMK And Congress Begin Seat-Sharing Negotiations
Senior leaders from the Congress recently met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M. K. Stalin in Chennai to discuss the framework for seat-sharing arrangements. The meeting is part of ongoing consultations aimed at finalising the alliance strategy ahead of the Assembly elections.
Both parties have formed internal committees to handle negotiations and evaluate constituency-level strengths. Congress leaders are reportedly pushing for a larger share of seats, arguing that the party has maintained a presence in several constituencies and remains a key partner in the alliance.
The DMK leadership is simultaneously engaging with other coalition partners while preparing the broader electoral strategy.
Deadlock Over Number Of Seats In Tamil Nadu Assembly
Negotiations between the two parties have reportedly encountered differences over the number of seats to be allocated to Congress in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Congress leaders are said to be seeking around 40 constituencies as part of the alliance arrangement. DMK leaders, however, have indicated a lower number based on previous election formulas and the party’s dominant position in the state.
The differing expectations have led to continued discussions, with both sides aiming to reach a compromise before the election schedule is officially announced.
Alliance Strategy Ahead Of Tamil Nadu Elections
The DMK leads a broader alliance that includes several regional and national parties. Finalising seat-sharing agreements among coalition partners is a key step before the election campaign begins.
Political developments surrounding these negotiations are being closely watched as they could influence campaign planning, candidate selection and alliance coordination ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
