DMDK Joins DMK Alliance Ahead Of TN Polls

The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) has joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, marking a significant shift in the state’s political alignments. The announcement was made after senior leaders from both parties met in Chennai to formalise the tie-up.

DMDK Joins DMK-Led Alliance For Tamil Nadu Polls

The DMDK, founded by the late Vijayakanth, will now be part of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance for the upcoming Assembly elections. Party general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth confirmed the decision, stating that the alliance aims to strengthen the coalition’s electoral prospects across the state. This marks the first time DMDK has aligned with the DMK bloc, ending speculation over its position ahead of the polls.

The move is expected to impact constituency-level calculations as parties begin seat-sharing discussions.

Alliance Sets Target Of Over 200 Seats

Premalatha Vijayakanth said the expanded alliance is targeting victory in more than 200 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. The DMK-led coalition already includes several regional and national parties, and leaders expressed confidence that the addition of DMDK would consolidate support in key constituencies.

Formal announcements regarding seat allocation are expected in the coming weeks.

Political Reactions To DMDK Realignment

The alliance shift has drawn responses from rival parties, with some questioning the strategic implications of the move. Supporters of the DMK bloc, however, described the inclusion of DMDK as a boost to the coalition’s outreach and organisational strength.

The development sets the stage for intensified campaigning as Tamil Nadu prepares for the Assembly elections.
