Dhaka-Karachi Direct Flights Resume After 14 Years
Direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi have resumed after a gap of 14 years, restoring nonstop air connectivity between Bangladesh and Pakistan. The first direct flight took off this week, marking a significant step in improving travel links between the two countries.
Flight Operations and Schedule
The service is being operated by Bangladesh’s national carrier, with flights expected to run twice a week. The direct route reduces travel time to around three hours, compared to earlier journeys that required stopovers through Gulf cities.
Boost for Travel and Business
The resumption of direct flights is expected to benefit business travellers, families and tourists by lowering costs and simplifying travel. Officials said the move would also help strengthen people-to-people contacts and support limited trade and commercial exchanges.
Background to Suspension
Direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi were discontinued in 2012 due to a combination of diplomatic, commercial and operational reasons. Their revival reflects efforts to improve practical connectivity despite broader political differences.
Looking Ahead
Aviation authorities said passenger response to the renewed service will be closely monitored, with the possibility of expanding frequency if demand grows.
