Devendra Fadnavis Backs Modi’s ‘Dimaagi Naxals’ Warning
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s warning about “dimaagi Naxals”, arguing that ideological extremism promoting anarchy could be more dangerous than armed Naxalism. He also linked the Prime Minister’s remarks to a controversy surrounding the Congress’s Independence Day programme.
Fadnavis Backs Modi’s ‘Dimaagi Naxals’ Warning
Fadnavis said armed Naxalism had largely been weakened but warned that an ideological form of extremism remained active among people seeking to promote unrest.
He described Modi’s Independence Day warning as appropriate and supported the Prime Minister’s call to identify and isolate those spreading such ideology.
Modi had earlier said armed Naxals were losing ground but warned that ideological sympathisers continued looking for opportunities to create violence and unrest.
Fadnavis Targets Congress Over Vande Mataram
Fadnavis cited the Congress’s Independence Day programme while explaining his argument.
The BJP had accused Sonia Gandhi of objecting to the full rendition of Vande Mataram at the event. Fadnavis said that if reports of her objection were accurate, such opposition to a constitutionally authorised decision reflected the mindset Modi had warned against.
Rahul Gandhi, Kharge Absence Criticised
Fadnavis also criticised Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge for their absence from the Independence Day function.
He argued that political opposition to the BJP should not translate into distancing from national celebrations, stressing that Independence Day belongs to the country rather than any political party.
The remarks add to the political confrontation over Modi’s “dimaagi Naxals” terminology, which Congress leaders have strongly criticised.
