Dense Fog Forces Over 100 Delhi Flight Cancellations
Thick winter fog in Delhi and northern India on Saturday, December 20, 2025 severely disrupted air travel at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, forcing the cancellation of more than 100 flights and causing widespread delays. The poor visibility made takeoffs and landings unsafe, prompting airport authorities and airlines to adjust operations.
Flight Disruptions Due to Low Visibility
Airport officials reported that reduced visibility in the early morning hours led to at least 66 arriving and 63 departing flights being cancelled on Saturday. The fog, coupled with high air pollution across the National Capital Region, significantly affected flight schedules. Many other flights were delayed as airport operations coped with the conditions.
Weather and Travel Impact
The dense fog in parts of Delhi-NCR left the city shrouded in mist, with visibility dropping drastically during the early hours. Airlines issued travel advisories, urging passengers to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport. Ground staff and airport teams worked to manage passenger flow and assist those affected by cancellations and delays.
Broader Transport Disruptions
The fog has also impacted road and rail transport across the region, with authorities warning that such winter weather conditions may persist for the next few days. Travelers were advised to plan ahead and stay updated on weather and flight information.
