Delhi’s Air Quality Improving, No GRAP 3 Imposed
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said on Saturday that although air pollution in Delhi remains at “very poor” levels, the situation has shown signs of improvement and so the escalation to Stage 3 under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) will not be implemented for now. According to data released, the Air Quality Index (AQI) had reached 361 at 4 pm and climbed to 372 by 6 pm the previous day.
Improvement And Monitoring
Officials noted that early measurements pointed to an easing of pollution levels, prompting the decision to maintain only Stage 1 and Stage 2 measures. The CAQM emphasised that it will continue close monitoring and will escalate to Stage 3 as soon as worsening trends appear. Under Stage 3, curbs would include bans on non-essential construction, vehicle restrictions, and hybrid schooling for younger children.
Still A Critical Situation
Despite the slight improvement, health experts caution that the AQI is still dangerously high and remains on the verge of crossing into the “severe” category. Meteorological conditions such as low wind speeds and cooler temperatures, combined with persistent local sources of pollution, continue to pose a threat to residents’ health. Authorities reiterated that although the GRAP-3 escalation is on hold, citizens should take precautions and be prepared for stricter measures if required.
