Delhi Works On Dates For Zelenskyy Visit

After hosting Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this week, New Delhi is now preparing for a possible visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Officials said discussions are underway to finalise suitable dates. The visit is expected to take place after the Winter Session of Parliament, with January being considered as a likely window.

Diplomatic Balance After Putin Trip

India has maintained a careful balance in its foreign policy on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. While Putin’s visit focused on defence, energy and trade cooperation, officials indicated that inviting Zelenskyy would underline India’s position that dialogue is the only way forward. The move is seen as an attempt to ensure continued engagement with both sides.

Talks Already In Progress

Sources said consultations between Indian and Ukrainian officials began even before Putin’s visit. Logistical planning and security arrangements are currently being assessed. A formal announcement will be made once both governments agree on dates and agenda points.

Strategic Significance

A visit by the Ukrainian President would reinforce India’s message of neutrality and strategic autonomy. It could also open space for cooperation on areas such as reconstruction, food security and trade. Observers believe that India wants to avoid being seen as favouring one side and continues to advocate a diplomatic path to peace.
